PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the number of patterns stored in an external recording medium as much as possible, to improve operability for selecting the desired pattern out of plural pattern names displayed on a color display in the format of a table and to recognize it from a display color whether an expander added to an embroidery pattern is equal or not. SOLUTION: By executing pattern selection control, based on the pattern name data of plural embroidery patterns recorded on a floppy disk, the plural pattern names are displayed on the pattern name display picture of a color display in the table format of two lateral columns and eight longitudinal rows and further, the pattern name display area of these plural pattern names is displayed in color while cyclically using 'blue (showing in a figure with slanting lines downward to right)' and 'green (showing in a figure with slanting lines downward to left)' so as to make display colors different between mutually adjacent pattern names.
