PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the trouble of electromagnetic driving type intake exhaust valves with a high accuracy. SOLUTION: The intake pipe pressure MAP is detected by a pressure sensor (S1). As the variation condition of the intake pipe pressure MAP, the variation width (amplitude) A of the intake pipe pressure in a specific crank angle (180 deg.CA) period is detected (S7).The result is compared with a deciding level, so as to carry out a first trouble decision (S8). As the variation condition of the intake pipe pressure MAP, the mean value of the intake pipe pressure AMAP at every specific crank angle (180 deg.CA) period is calculated (S10), so as to detect the variation width B of the mean values (S12). A second trouble decision is carried out by comparing the variation width B of the mean values to the deciding level (S13).
