PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing glass substrates which is capable of shortening a processing stage, reducing the thickness of the glass substrates to the max. possible extent and drastically saving a raw material cost, processing equipment cost, processing time, etc., by controlling the flatness and warpage of the glass substrates with high accuracy. SOLUTION: This process has a press forming stage for press forming molten glass to a disk shape of <=1.0 mm in wall thickness, a crystallization treatment stage for uniformly applying pressure on a pressing member and firing the press formed glass, a rough grinding stage for applying brittle fracture processing or plastic deformation processing by stationary abrasive grains to the glass substrates, a stacking stage for fixing and integrating the glass substrates by spacers and adhesives, a coring stage for cutting the glass substrates, a chamfering stage, an edge polishing stage for the peripheral parts of the glass substrates, a precision grinding stage for subjecting both surfaces of the glass substrates obtd. by peeling and washing to non-dress grinding to successively and continuously execute the brittle fracture processing and plastic deformation processing and a polishing stage for both surfaces of the glass substrates.
