CALENDERING TREATMENT FOR PAPER AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of cracks of an elastic roll by a high temperature and to calender paper in excellent workability by spraying a steam water mixed mist on both end parts of a calender roll nip part. SOLUTION: As paper is passed through a nip part of a calender constituted of a metal roll and an elastic roll heated to 100-250 deg.C and calendered, a steam water mixed mist having 150-250μm Sauter mean diameter is sprayed on both end parts of the metal roll and/or the elastic roll which are not brought into contact with the paper and which are brought into contact with both end parts of the paper in the width direction so as to maintain both the end parts of the elastic roll with which the paper is not brought into contact at <=90 deg.C.
