PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device for parking a vehicle utilizing hydraulic pressure generated with a master cylinder used for operating a service brake device. SOLUTION: This device has an engagement part 11 formed on a brake pedal 1 and a tooth part 12 for engagement therewith, and when the shift lever of an automatic transmission is in (P) or (N) range the engagement part 11 and the tooth part 12 come to be engaged with each other, thereby holding the position of the brake pedal 1 in a stepped-down state. As a result, hydraulic pressure generated from a master cylinder 2 is maintained and a braking force for a vehicle is subsequently maintained. In this case, hydraulic pressure generated from the master cylinder 2 is utilized for realizing a parking brake status and the need of equipping an actuator having a motor or the like dedicated to a parking brake is eliminated, and a problem such as the vibration or noise of a motor or the like does not occur at the time of operating the parking brake.
