PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a silver halide photographic emulsion excellent in sensitivity and graininess and to provide a silver halide photographic sensitive material using the emulsion. SOLUTION: This silver halide photographic emulsion is prepd. by using a compd. for a silver halide photographic sensitive material contg. a substituent capable of releasing a bromine or chlorine ion in the molecule. The compd. is preferably represented by formula X-(L1)n1}n2-L2-(SOL)m, wherein X is Cl or Br, each of L1 and L2 is a divalent combining group, SOL is a water-soluble group, n1 is 0 or 1 and each of m and n2 is an integer of 1-4. This method is a method for manufacturing the emulsion by using the compound. Further, this is the silver halide photographic material so as to make the emulsion use.
