A recirculating heat transfer liquid is deaerated by withdrawal of a partial quantity of the fluid from the circuit and allowing it to depressurize, before returning it, under pressure to the circulation loop. An Independent claim is also included for a device in which a pair of diaphragm pumps (1,2), preferably in a common housing (3) has a common, reciprocating actuator shaft (8) driven from an eccentric (5). Non-return valves (6) are provided in the inlet and discharge ports of the diaphragm pump unit (2), and pump unit (1) has a control device (7) to regulate the flow into the deaeration chamber (9) which is freely vented to atmosphere.
