PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a working efficiency in a container opening device. SOLUTION: A container opening device is comprised of an opening operating means 7 for moving a holding section 10 to open a container 3 under a state in which a lid 6 installed at an opening part 9 of the container 3 and a stored item detecting means 8 for sensing a state of items (w) stored in the container 3 arranged in rows as viewed from the opening part 9 opened by the opening operating means 7. The stored item detecting means 8 is arranged at the holding section 10 moved in an arranging direction of the items stored in the container under a state of holding the lid as its opening operation, the holding section 10 is moved to open the lid toward an item arranging direction to cause the stored item detecting means 8 to be moved toward the items (w) in the container.
