PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an open shield machine and a forwarding method therefor, by which a starting shaft, to which a reaction wall is installed, is made unnecessary because self-advancing is carried out without taking reaction at a rear, and a concrete caisson body is not damaged even when the curved execution of works is conducted. SOLUTION: Shield jacks are disposed on the insides of left-right side wall boards 1a, the machine body of the open shield machine 1, in which a front, a rear and a top face are opened, is composed of three or more of split bodies 12a-12c in the longitudinal direction, and sections among each split body 12a-12c are connected by first and second shield jacks 13a, 13b respectively. The open shield machine 1, in which a traction jack 16 is mounted on the split body 12c in a last section and the other end of a traction member 17, in which one end is set up to the traction jack 16, is fixed onto the split body 12a in a frontest section, is used, the first and second shield jacks 13a, 13b fitted to each split body 12a, 12b are extended and the split bodies are forwarded successively from the split body 12a in the frontest section while taking reaction in the slit body 12c at a rear in the front split bodies 12a, 12b excepting the last section and fronter than the last section, and the traction jack 16 is operated and the split body 12c in the last section is drawn to the front and forward moved by the traction member 17 in the split body 12c.
