PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To embody a lower cost by miniaturization of the optical parts to be used and the reduction of the number of parts by exhibiting a high isolation characteristic and diminishing both of a length and diameter. SOLUTION: A non-reciprocal part 10 formed by inserting a 45 deg. Faraday rotator 16 and a half wave plate 18 between two pieces of double refraction elements 12 and 14 is inserted between a ferrule and a collimator lens and the entire part is arrayed to one row. Two sets of such array units are so combined that the collimator lenses 22, 26 face each other. The ferrule of the one array unit is formed as a two-fiber ferrule 20 having two fibers 21 and the ferrule of the other array unit as a single-fiber ferrule 24 having one fiber. Both may also be the two-fiber ferrules. The same is applicable to optical switches as well. Another ferrule possible alternative is the constitution of a reflection type by forming the one ferrule as a 3-fiber ferrule and using a polarization rotating element and a reflector.
