PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of an image forming device using electron emitting elements. SOLUTION: The device has a first potential applying means, which successively selects plural electron emitting elements P2001 and a light emitting body that emits light beams by the irradiation of the emitted electrons and provides a prescribed potential that differs from the potentials given to non-selective electron emitting elements to selected electron emitting elements, and a second potential applying means which gives the potentials in accordance with the image signals to at least selected electron emitting elements P2001. Te voltage applied to the selected elements P2001 are set in the vicinity of a threshold at which the light emitting body emits light beams or not by the irradiation of the electrons from the elements P2001 when no request is made to the body to emit light beams by the electrons from the selected elements P2001.
