PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe starter device in a single-phase induction motor which surely separates an auxiliary capacitor by an opening/closing switch and which also eliminates burning of the motor overheated due to incomplete separation, when the motor is started. SOLUTION: An auxiliary capacitor C2 is provided in parallel, via an opening/closing switch SW2 to an auxiliary winding S of a single-phase induction motor IM, the motor IM is started by closing a power switch SW1, and operation is continued by opening the opening/closing switch to separate the auxiliary capacitor C2 after a fixed time. In the power switch SW1, a relay RY1 for its opening/closing and a relay control circuit RC are provided, a current sensor CS is mounted in a circuit CC of the parallel auxiliary capacitor, the current flowing in the circuit CC is detected by the current sensor CS further, after a fixed time beyond the time of separation of this capacitor, and the power source of the motor IM is interrupted by the relay control circuit RC, when the current after separation is equal to or more than that before separation.
