PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and simply-structured optical fiber attenuator capable of obtaining a required attenuation amount and a method for easily manufacturing it. SOLUTION: A part of coated film of a coated optical fiber is removed, and by heating a part of the removed part with a heating means of a gas burner, etc., while holding the exposed optical fiber in the bended state of a arc shape, a permanently bended part 11 having one or above a radius of curvature smaller than that before heating is formed, and the optical fiber attenuator is obtained by making its both side parts having the coating into the lead parts 12, 13 and the required attenuation amount is obtained by selecting the radii of curvature and the number of the permanent bended parts. |
