PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a dispersant for inorganic pigment, capable of sufficiently exhibiting the dispersing effect in a small quantity added and capable of producing an aqueous, high concentrated and low viscous dispersoid of inorganic pigment by including a specific polymer and an alkali metal (bi)carbonate. SOLUTION: This dispersant for inorganic pigment comprises (A) a polymer including anα,β-monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid [pref. (meth) acrylic acid, maleic acid, itaconic acid, or the like] or its salt with an alkali metal or an amine as a principal monomer for structural units and (B) an alkali metal carbonate or an alkali metal bicarbonate. The ingredient B is pref. included in its quantity of 1-500 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. ingredient A. The dispersant can disperse inorganic pigment into an aqueous medium and is pref. added in a quantity of 0.05-10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. inorganic pigment particle slurry. Thus inorganic particulate such as titanium dioxide is effectively dispersed and the dispersant is expected to be useful as a dispersant for ink pigment or the like.
