PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition device capable of improving recognition accuracy by considering semantic connection between word candidates at the time of recognizing characters. SOLUTION: The character read by an image scanner and the character stored in a dictionary for recognition are compared, the character is recognized and a recognition distance is calculated (S10). Then, a word constituted of the character of a recognition candidate is extracted from a semantic network (S18), the semantic distance of the extracted word candidate and a keyword is computed (S20) and computation considering the recognition distance and the semantic distance is performed for the respective word candidates (S24). Priority is decided in the ascending order of the computed numerical value (S28) and output is performed in the priority order (S34).
