When the valve 28 is closed, it is judged whether an initial setting start switch 42 is turned on or off. When the switch 42 is turned on, the initial control setting of a roll clearance is implemented. When the switch 42 is turned off, the opening of the valve 28 is controlled manually or automatically to start hulling work. While the clearance between hulling rolls 7, 7 is controlled, for example, by a load amperage standard, the hulling work is done. Accordingly, since the implementation of the initial control setting of the roll clearance can be selected optionally by the judgment of an operator, when the work is reopened after interruption, the initial control setting of the roll clearance is omitted, and the hulling work can be restarted promptly.
