PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent leakage flux from a pole piece to a rotor during braking off and increase braking torque during braking. SOLUTION: This pole piece 11 for an eddy current reduction gear is formed so that a fixed supporting ring 1a and a rotation supporting ring 1b in which a plurality of permanent magnets 3a, 3b are mounted around the periphery with their polarities facing in the opposite direction with each other may be disposed in parallel with each other, and a plurality of ferroelectric pole pieces 11 may be disposed so as to face each other on the outer-peripheral pole surfaces of a group of the permanent magnets 3a, 3b with the pole pieces magnetically-insulated from each other. A cross-sectional reduced part 11a in the whole range of a length part in the circumferential direction is formed on both sides in the cross direction when viewed from the longitudinal section of a shaft on which the eddy current reduction gear is mounted. It is thus possible to reduce braking loss during braking off and increase braking force during braking.
