PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of pixel data to be recorded in a recording medium when images recorded in a read original are black-and-white, to reduce the size of a file for black-and-white images prepared in the recording medium and to improve the using efficiency of the recording medium in an image reader for reading full-color images recorded in the read original. SOLUTION: The pixel data of the respective color components R, G and B of the images recorded in the read original are obtained in a step 100 and whether or not the images are black-and-white is judged based on the pixel data of the respective color components R, G and B in a step 200. In a step 300, the file for black-and-white or the file for the images other than the black- and-white images is prepared corresponding to black-and-white judgement.
