PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a second agent for permanent wave, excellent in storage stability in viscosity and function, and esp. useful for straight permanent by including crosslinked poly(sodium acrylate) in a specific content. SOLUTION: This second agent for permanent wave which contains an oxidizing agent contains 0.5-10 wt.% crosslinked poly(sodium acrylate). The crosslinked poly(sodium acrylate) is expressed by the formula and is obtained by random crosslinking >=200 straight-chain polymer having 300-1,000 polymerization degree with a crosslinker such as tetraallyloxyethane. The oxidizing agent is pref. sodium bromate, hydrogen peroxide, etc., in the content of ca. 0.5-20 wt.%.
