Compounds are provided for use in the preparation of polymerisable liquid crystalline mixtures, liquid crystalline polymers and optical devices prepared from such mixtures and polymers. The component includes novel compounds comprising an organosiloxane portion and a portion having a structure that is compatible with a mesogenic molecular architecture.
