PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for judging a life of a transfer roll in a furnace by a simple equipment whereby a stop time of a line can be shortened without the need for measuring an entire front face of the roll. SOLUTION: According to a method for judging a life of a transfer roll in a furnace by investigating the roll nondestructively, a predetermined exciting force is applied to the transfer roll 3 in the furnace, the vibration of the transfer roll 3 in the furnace is measured, a frequency response function is measured from the measured vibration and compared with a reference frequency response function, whereby a life of the transfer roll 3 in the furnace is measured. The exciting force is applied by striking according to this method. Moreover, in the method, the frequency response function is compared on the basis of a difference from a reference frequency value of a specific vibration in a normal mode, thereby judging the life of the transfer roll 3 in the furnace.
