PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the insulation performance between electrodes connected to a magnetoresistance(MR) element and shielding layers, without increasing the thickness of the insulating layer between the MR element and the shielding layers. SOLUTION: A lower shielding layer 3 and a first portion 4a of the upper shielding layer is arranged in a state such that both layers are insulated from each other on the same plane. Part of a conductive layer 7 constituting the electrodes to be connected to the MR element 9 is arranged into a groove 5, formed between the lower shielding layer 3, and the first portion 4a of the upper shielding layer is arranged in a state in which this part is insulated from the lower shielding layer 3 and the first portion 4a of the upper shielding layer by the insulating layer. The second portion 4b of the upper shielding layer is arranged on the upper side of the MR element 9 and is connected to the first portion 4a of the upper shielding layer.
