摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an adverse effect from being given to a substrate, a seal material or the like by forming a groove on the upper surface of a glass substrate for improvement of cutting productivity and cutting the substrate applying a cutting load while putting a press mount under the groove. SOLUTION: A strip-like upper base material 1 is disposed and fixed at a specified distance on a lower base material 2. The material is cut to be stick- like by cutting this in a parallel direction to a side direction of the strip-like upper base material 1. And after liq. crystal is injected into a space between the upper base material 1 and the lower base material 2 from a liq. crystal injecting hole, the injecting hole is sealed. A groove 6 is formed on an upper surface of the lower base material 2 for improvement of cutting productivity, before cutting a unit of a liq. crystal display device, i.e., cutting the lower base material 2. A cutting load is applied in a direction shown as the arrow while putting a press mount 7 under the groove 6. In such a case, load stress to a transparent electrode of the upper base material 1, a transparent electrode of the lower base material 2 and a seal material 5 can be reduced as the load stress is concentrated in the groove 6.
