PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element by which visibility of pictures is improved, a display with high resolution is realized and which is obtained with ease and at a low cost. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal optical element 1 constituted by combining a liquid crystal panel 10 and polarizing plates 20, 21, 22, the plural polarizing plates 21, 22 are located at the front and their transmittance of the light of 500-600 nm wavelength is adjusted to <=30%. Thereby an external light incident from a display side of this wavelength region is absorbed by the polarizing plates 21, 22 to reduce a reflected light of 500-600 nm having high sensitivity to eyes and improve visibility of pictures. Besides as there is no blurring in displayed pictures similarly to the case of using an antiglare layer, a display with high resolution is obtd. and additionally the element is designed more easily than when using a λ/4 plate. |
