PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make reproduction startable within a short time without complicated operation by a user by immediately activating a reproducing software corresponding to reproducible data when a non-bootable CD-ROM is mounted and these data are stored on the CD-ROM. SOLUTION: After a power source is turned on, it is judged whether a CD- ROM 13 mounted on a CD-ROM drive 12 is bootable or not. When it is bootable and the user selects booting from the CD-ROM 13, sounds or images are reproduced from the data written on the CD-ROM 13. When the CD-ROM 13 is not bootable and even when the user does not select booting from the CD-ROM 13 although it is bootable, next, it is investigated whether the data on the CD- ROM 13 are data capable of reproducing sounds or images from them. When it is discriminated the data on the CD-ROM 13 are reproducibla data, the software for reproducing sounds or images from these data is activated.
