PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct instrumental differences in a fuel injection pump so as to be surely and stably performable with limited data. SOLUTION: An EEPROM 8 is installed in a control unit 6, while a POM 5 recorded with those of first or third instrumental error compensation data DQ, DQ and DX showing characteristics inherent in a fuel injection pump 2 is installed at the side of the pump 2. Then, at a stage where an electrical connection is completed by a communication line 10, those of reference point data DQα, DQβ, and DQγpreset among data in the ROM 5 are read in the EEPROM 8, and thus compensation for instrumental errors in the fuel injection pump 2 is carried out with these reference point data DQα, DQβ, and DQγ.
