PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pipeline type A/D converter low in power consumption and high in operating speed. SOLUTION: In this pipeline type A-D converter comprising a plurality of cascade connection of stages for A/D conversion and D/A conversion, two systems each of sample-and-hold circuits (S/H1, S/H2) and D/A converters (D/A1, D/A2) are provided to each stage. When the one sample-and-hold circuit S/H2 is in holding, the other sample-and-hold circuits S/H1 conducts sampling so that each stage continues outputting a signal Vout to a succeeding stage without a pause. When the sample period and the hold period are equal to each other especially, the A/D converter is operated at a speed twice that of a conventional A/D converter.
