The run-flat vehicle pneumatic tire has a running ring (14) shrunk on to the wheel rim (10). An elastic ring (30), such as of rubber, is between the ring (14) and the wheel rim (10) to absorb the forces through heat distortion of the wheel rim (10) when in use. The running ring (14) is formed by arc segments, clamped together by screw bolts, with elastic absorbers between the screw bolts and the ring (14) as pliable disks between the ring segments and the bolt screws. The rubber ring (30) round the wheel rim (10), between it and the running ring (14), is significantly less rigid than the wheel rim (10) and the inner surface (34) of the running ring (14). The elastic ring (30) fits within a groove at the inner surface (34) of the running ring (14), and is thicker than the groove depth at ambient temps, when the running ring (14) is clamped to the wheel rim (10). The elastic ring (30) is bonded to the inner surface (34) of the running ring (14) by an adhesive, bolts or rivets. A number of elastic rings (30) can be used, all fitted within the same groove at the running ring inner surface. |
