PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently compress/expand an image while maintaining image quality of a significant area designated by an operator in the case of compressing the image. SOLUTION: In this image compressing method that compress/expands image data, a significant area in an image is designated (S11), the significance of image data which are read using the distance between the position of the read image data and the significant area as a parameter is calculated (S12), the image data that are read in accordance with the calculated significance are subjected to encoding preprocessing (S13) and the compressibility or expansion rate of each pixel of the image data (S14) subjected to encoding preprocessing is changed (S15 and S16). |
