PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a miniaturized high-precision position detector. SOLUTION: The position detector 1 is provided with a high frequency-excited coil 5, a core 7 inserted into the coil 5 in such a way that the core 7 can move relatively to the coil 5 in the direction of the center axis of the coil 5, and a detecting means which detects the moved position of the core 7 relatively to the coil 5 based on the impedance of the coil 5 in an enclosure 3. The impedance of the coil 5 changes as the core 7 moves. The length of the core 7 in the moving direction is made longer than the moving amount of the core 7 relative to the coil 5 and the coil length of the coil 5 is also made longer than the moving amount of the core 7 relative to the coil 5.
