The invention concerns more or less substituted water soluble acrylamide or acrylate copolymers and zwitterion monomers. The polymers have a general structure (I), wherein X and X' comprise a N<+>-R1-Z<-> betaine, with Z<-> corresponding to at least one of the formulae (II) and (III), respectively corresponding to sulphobetaines and to phosphobetaines.
