PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling rumen fermentation by feeding phytase to a ruminant, capable of more safely controlling the rumen fermentation of the ruminant than by conventional methods, because the control in the administration of the phytase is easy and because the phytase does not produce a side effect. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the rumen fermentation of a ruminant comprises feeding phytase (preferably originated from a mold) to the ruminant. The daily dose of the phytase is preferably 10-50 units per kg of the body weight of the ruminant. When the phytase is added to a formula feed, the phytase is preferably added in an amount of 250-1,500 units per kg of the dry formula feed. When the ruminant is a meat breed, it is preferable to feed the phytase to the ruminant in the juvenile period. When the ruminant is a dairy breed, it is preferable to feed the phytase to the ruminant in the growth period and at the stage of lactation. The target ruminant is preferably cattle. In addition to the direct addition to the feed, the phytase may be added to a composition for controlling the rumen fermentation, such as tablets for animal medicines, and subsequently orally fed to the ruminant. |
