PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve spalling resistance and hot impact resistance by setting total porosity of a ceramic aggregate particle to a specific value in a filter media for molten metal obtained by sintering a mixture of the ceramic aggregate particle and an inorganic binder. SOLUTION: The filter media used for filtering solid impurities (non-metal inclusions or the like) incorporated in the molten metal, particularly the molten metal of aluminum or an aluminum alloy is obtained by sintering the mixture of the ceramic aggregate particle with the inorganic binder. In such a case, the total porosity of the ceramic aggregate particle is setted to 4-12%, preferably 4-9%. As the kind of the ceramic aggregate to be used, an alumina aggregate or a spinel aggregate is used. The aggregate having 4-12% total porosity is obtained by adjusting the particle diameter of raw material powder to be used for the production of the aggregate particle, the molding pressure, the firing temp. or the time or the melting temp. or the cooling rate.
