Compounds of formula (I) n = 1-5 M = 1/2 to 0 provided that when n = 1, m 1/2 Specific claims to the hemihydrates of I (n = 3 or 4) and to the anhydrates of I (n = 1, 2 or 3). The antibiotics have improved stability compared with the fully hydrated penicillins which are prepd. by usual processes. The cpds. I are used in the usual way as known broad spectrum antibiotics e.g. for treating disease in man and animals, as feed supplements for animals. The known hydrate of 6-(1-aminocyclopentane carboxamido) penicillanic acid was prepd. from 6-APA and 1-aminocyclopentanecarboxylic acid N-carboxyanhydride and contained 5.89% H2O after drying over silica gel in vacuo. 2 g. of this hydrate and water (2 ml) were heated at 70 deg.C. for 2 mins., isopropanol (20 ml) was added and the mixture was filtered.
