PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain an optical fiber bundle which is aligned with the respective polarization axes (double refraction main axes) of polarization maintaining type optical fibers to a specified direction and has good polarization maintaining characteristics. SOLUTION: This optical fiber bundle is constituted by aggregating the bare fibers 14 of coated polarization maintaining type optical fibers 10 in a capillary 20 and arranging these fibers in such a manner that the polarization directions of the respective polarization maintaining type optical fibers are aligned at least at the end face of the bundle. Adhesives having a Young's modulus after curing of <=6 MPa are packed into the capillary. If the bundle is formed in such a manner, the application of stresses and strains on the optical fibers after curing does not occur. Consequently, the extinction ratio of the respective polarization maintaining type optical fibers after the bundling can be nearly the same as the extinction ratio (about -10 to -50 dB) of the respective polarization maintaining type optical fiber before the bundling.
