PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the body structure of the car with high safety permitting control of the amount of deformation of the floor and sufficient control of the invasion of center pillar or the like when the impact load is applied from the side of the vehicle. SOLUTION: In this vehicle body structure, a side sill 10 is coupled to a side edge of a floor 30 with a closed section shape that extends along the longitudinal direction of the body. This structure also comprises a cross member 40 which extends with a predetermined height in the vehicle width direction on the floor 30 that generally corresponds in the longitudinal direction of the body to the center pillar that is provided so that it stands. The cross member also forms the close section shape with the floor 30 in the vehicle width direction. An outer end portion 46 of the cross member 40 is arranged oppositely with a predetermined interval in a side sill inner 11 of the side sill 10.
