The present invention pertains to a telecommunication system. In particular, the present invention concerns a new and developed method and system for encryption and decryption of messages to be sent in reliable manner by a mobile telephone set. With the help of the invention, various applications requiring high data security can be implemented by use of a mobile telephone set and an associated subscriber identity module or the like. With the invention, a reliable payment system can be implemented. Furthermore, by virtue of the invention, standardised mobile telephones and subscriber identity modules can be used without making changes in the operating system of the mobile telephone set. <IMAGE>
