<p>Preparation of 1,6-octadienes.. F5-. Compounds of formula:- (X and Y are each CHO, COR1, COOR2, SO2R3, CON(R4)2, CN or NO2; R1, R2 and R3 are monovalent hydrocarbon radicals; R4 is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical; Z' is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or -CH2-CR1=CR2-CH2-CH2-CHR2-CR1=CH2; R1 and R2 are H or alkyl; or, when X or Y = COR1, R1 and Z' may be connected to form a bivalent hydrocarbon radical) are prepared by treating compounds of formula:- X-CH(Z)-Y (Z = Z', except that Z is not the 2,7-octadienyl radical) with compounds of formula:- CH2=CR1-CR2=CHR3 (R3 = H or alkyl) in the presence of a Pt or Pd catalyst at 0-250 degrees C. The products are intermediates in the prepn. of surface-active agents, lubricants and perfumes; they are also useful as comonomers in polymerisations.</p> |
