PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly and rapidly measure nucleic acids, for example, detection of the presence of vero toxin-producing bacteria, by amplifying the nucleic acid in the sample by using a fluorescent labelled primer and measuring the fluorescence polarization value of the specimen during or after amplification. SOLUTION: The nucleic acid in the sample is amplified by a gene amplification method and the amount of the nucleic acid in the amplification products is determined by the fluorescence polarization. In this case, a fluorescent labeled primer with at least one of FITC(fluorescein isothiccyanate) and/or fluorescein is used in an initial concentration of 1-200 nM to amplify the nucleic acid by the PCR technique with 25 or more time cycles and the fluorescence polarization value of the specimen is measured during or after the amplification whereby the nucleic acid useful for detection of Vero toxin-producing bacteria can be exactly and rapidly measured in good reproducibility. |
