<p>A collagen material which has such physical properties as enabling suture while maintaining the biochemical characteristics inherent to collagen and can sustain its shape over a certain period of time after the application to a living body; and materials for medical use based thereon, for example, artificial nerve tubes, artificial spinal cords, artificial gullets, artificial tracheae, artificial blood vessels, artificial valves, artificial membranes for medical use such as artificial scleromeninx, artificial ligaments, artificial tendons, surgical suture threads, surgical loading materials, surgical reinforcing materials, wound protectors, artificial skin and artificial cornea. The above collagen material is characterized by comprising a biocompatible and biodegradable/absorbable substance filled in or sandwiched between matrices of a multidimensional nonwoven structure consisting of collagen fibers having ultrafine collagen fibers as the fundamental constituting unit.</p> |
