<p>This invention relates to a method and apparatus for producing hydrocarbon/water emulsions which are stable for long periods of time. The apparatus has an enclosed circularly cylindrical housing (12), within which is disposed as hollow circularly cylindrical drum (64) rotatably mounted vertically and concentrically, defining an annulus of less than 0.008 inch. The drum defines an anterior drum chamber having an upper, a central and a lower moiety, and the drum has a multiplicity of radial passages between its inside and outside surfaces. A plurality of baffle blades (80) are radially disposed within the drum chamber including an upper set (80a, 80b) disposed within the upper moiety oriented for producing downward radial flow and a lower set (80c, 80d) disposed within the lower moiety for producing upward radial flow. Also included is a driveshaft (26) for rotating the periphery of the drum.</p> |
