Armature release rate increase method for electromagnetic actuator, e.g. for i.c. engine gas valve

The method is used for the armature (4) of an electromagnetic actuator with a magnetic yoke and a coil, supplied with a current for holding the armature against the force of a return spring (5,6). A release current of opposite polarity to the holding current is supplied to the coil over a given duration upon release of the armature.
