The system has an arrangement for generating parallel laser beams, an optical system for shaping, guiding and focussing the laser beam and an arrangement for introducing a parallel observation and/or monitoring beam path into the laser beam before the optical system. The optical system has a first negative (concave) (7) and a second positive (convex) (9) optical element whose separation can be varied.
