PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel biodegradable water-absorbing resin comprising a crosslinked poly-γ-glutamic acid. SOLUTION: There are provided biodegradable water-absorbing resins each comprising a poly-γ-glutamic acid and including the following resins (1) to (4): (1) a biodegradable water-absorbing resin prepared by reacting (A) a poly-γ- glutamic acid or (B) a poly-γ-glutamate with (C) a compound having at least two functional groups reactive with a carboxyl group derived from the poly-γ- glutamic acid in the molecule, (2) the biodegradable water-absorbing resin as described in (1), wherein B is prepared by reacting 1 equivalent of the carboxylic acid of the poly-γ-glutamic acid with 0.5-1.0 equivalent of a basic compound, (3) the biodegradable highly water absorbing resin as described in (1), wherein C is a polyepoxide compound, and (4) the biodegradable highly water-absorbing resin as described in (1) and prepared by reacting 100 pts.wt. A or B with 0.1-5.0 pts.wt. polyepoxy compound.
