A portable electronic device comprising a user input device capable of adopting at least three pre-determined positions, each of which enables an associated function to be actuated, a processor for receiving inputs from the user input device and altering the operating state of the portable electronic device accordingly, wherein the user input device is operable in at least a menu-navigational mode and a text-editing mode, at least one of the pre-determined positions of the user input device being associated with both a menu-navigational function and a text-editing function. |
