PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume reduction apparatus that neither necessitates compression by mechanical pressurization using much kinetic energy nor compression by heating using much thermal energy for processing materials to be treated. SOLUTION: This volume-reduction apparatus comprises a housing part 2 having a throwing hole 4 for an object 1 to be treated and collecting the object 1, a pair of rotary axes 6 installed in an approximately lower part of the housing part 2, a plurality of cutting blades 7 formed in the axis 5 of each rotary axis 5 in the axial direction, a plurality of cut parts 8 formed in each cutting blade 7, and a collecting container 10 for collecting the treated matter cut by the cutting blades 7, so that the volume of the object 1 to be treated can easily be decreased with a small energy consumption and with no possibility of emitting malodor or gases generated in the case of thermal treatment.
