The device is of the type which has a crown (17) fixed to the nose of the torch which injects the cold gas radially into the plasma flow at the torch output. The crown (17) has a cold gas injection annular chamber (22), which is formed between the crown (17) and a circular shoulder (15),co-axial to the torch, formed on the front face (13) of the torch nose, so that a radial injection surface (29) defined between the front face (13) and the internal periphery of the crown (17). This internal surface has a diameter (28) greater than the diameter of the plasma ejection pipe (6).
