The invention concerns a method for modulating the configuration of a magnetic field (B) defined by its axial component (Bz) and its radial component (Br) for confining a plasma generated by electronic cyclotronic resonance at a value RECR of the field (B), and having symmetry with respect to an axis or revolution (z). The invention is characterised in that it consists in continuously adjusting at least locally the magnetic field (B) intensity and/or direction to modulate its configuration in a domain where, the axial component (Bz) module takes on values located on either side of the resonance value (RECRZ) and which is delimited between a first configuration wherein said module variations along the axis of revolution (z) have a low gradient, and a second configuration, wherein said module variations have a high gradient, the value of the magnetic field maximum module/magnetic field minimum module ratio being more than 1.5 and preferably more than two. |
