<p>Imidazole derivs. of formula (I): (where R1, R2 and R3 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl which may be substd.) are prepd. by the cyclisation of alpha-acylaminoketones of formula (II): with formamide at 140-200, pref. 160-180 degrees C, in the presence of diluents, pref. excess formamide, and org. solvents such as dimethylformamide or nitrobenzene. The reaction is pref. in the presence of acids such as formic, or of ammonia, in an autoclave. The derivs. are economical to prepare and have pharmacological effects, notably good hypotension effect, an inhibiting effect on mono-amino-oxidase, and effective anticonvulsive, antiphlogistic, chloretic and antiverotic action.</p> |
