Ballastless railway track with rails set in endless strip of reinforced concrete

The rails (4,5) are of Vignoles section and are set in square-section longitudinal grooves (31,32) in the reinforced concrete foundation (3). The grooves are filled with cast material up to the top of the web of each rail. Longitudinal reinforcing rods (18) are arranged in a U-shape under each rail. The concrete foundation has a flat bottom, horizontal sides and a shallow U-shaped groove (17) between the rails, filled with cast material. There are small transverse grooves (19) in the top surface (16) of the foundation, on either side of each rail, spaced about 20 cm apart.
